Bruce Springsteen‘s version of Deportee, a song by Woodie Guthrie. It tells a true story about immigrant workers from Mexico who, after working in the fields near Los Gatos, California, were rounded up to be deported, loaded on an airplane bound for Mexico. The plane crashed not long after takeoff and killed everyone on board except the flight crew and security guard. A reporter, announcing the disaster on the radio in New York City Where Guithie lived, referred to the dead as “just deportees.”
