If you guessed Russia, you’d be wrong. Both of these images are from the Ukrainian Socialist Republic, part of the then-Soviet Union. The first image is of a traditional Cossack Dance, the other from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. And yes, this is the place where Biden and Putin are facing off in what could very well become World War III — potentially a nuclear holocaust.
A little history:
Ukraine was a part of the Soviet Union until the demise of the USSR in the early 1990s.
Ukraine was either a part of Russia or closely aligned with Russia/Kievan Rus’ for centuries.
The modern nations of Belarus, Russia, and Ukraine all claim Kievan Rus’ as their cultural ancestor.
Does that give Putin the “right” to invade Ukraine?
Did the U.S. have the “right” to invade and nearly destroy Vietnam, Iraq a Afghanistan ?
